Hi Lynn-
Since your readers are avid cyclists, I wanted to fill you in on an exciting new initiative the Lance Armstrong Foundation launched this morning to engage individuals in the fight against cancer. The new campaign will engage supporters in a fun, virtual bike race that could land the name of a friend or loved one affected by cancer on Lance Armstrong’s bike during the Tour de France.
This summer, Lance Armstrong and the members of Team RadioShack are honoring unsung everyday heroes in the fight against cancer. As they head out on the Amgen Tour of California, each rider’s bike will wear an “I RIDE FOR” sticker bearing the name of a hero they’ve chosen. Lance will honor a different hero throughout every stage– like Jimmy Fowkes, a high school senior in Portland, OR who is battling his third occurrence of brain cancer.
The LAF is giving individuals the opportunity to ride alongside Team RadioShack during the Tour of California in honor of their own hero through I RIDE FOR LIVESTRONG. The virtual race allows supporters to create their own bike and encourage their friends to "cheer" them on by joining the global fight against cancer. The top three racers with the most “cheers” at the end of the Tour of California will have their “I RIDE FOR” dedication stickers on Lance’s bike during the Tour de France. The rest of the Top 100 racers will be entered in a drawing to have their dedication sticker on the Team RadioShack bikes as they ride across France.
Check out livestrong.org to ride for your own cancer hero. I hope you and your readers will consider joining us in the fight against cancer.
