What is a Grease Monkey Wipe? Grease Monkey Wipes, or monkey wipes as I like to call them, are individually packaged hand wipes. I like to tuck one or two into my bike bag whenever I go out for a ride. You never know when you're going to get a flat, and have to change a tire. Flats usually happen when you are the furthest away from civilization, so having a way to quickly clean off your hands is pretty nifty.
I had a problem on one of my road bike rides not too long ago. I kept throwing my chain coming off draw bridges, when I went to shift from my little ring, back to my big ring. Turned out my husband missed some little piece on my gear setup when he put my new deep dish carbon wheels on my road bike. He found and installed the missing piece when we got back home, but I managed to throw my chain about 4 times on that ride.
Not too big a deal, (I'm being nice in the spirit of the holidays, I was probably pretty PO'd at the time). So I simply slowed down, pulled off to the side at the top of each draw bridge to put my chain back on. But that left me with nasty, black, greasy hands, so I was glad to have a Grease Monkey Wipe with me to clean my hands.
Grease Monkey mascot? No, it's the Bike Diva's 3rd place Miami Man monkey trophy modeling Grease Monkey Wipes. What a ham, always hogging the spotlight!
According to their website: "Grease Monkey Wipes are citrus cleaning wipes that use an all natural degreaser for heavy duty cleaning. Each individually packaged wipe easily removes grease, grime, oil, paint, marker and other messes from skin and surfaces"
Grease Monkey Wipes are a bit different than a baby wipe, or a regular hand wipe. I use those wipes for my delicate body parts, to take a quick "shower" if I'm going out for breakfast right after a bike ride. But they aren't powerful enough to efficiently deal with greasy gunk. A Grease Monkey Wipe is a much better solution, perfect for cleaning off greasy hands, or that chain ring grease "tattoo" that shows up much too often on my inner right calf. Just don't try and clean your delicate body parts with a Grease Monkey Wipe, use a baby wipe instead.

I'm having problems with the bottom bracket of my 2008 Trek Madone 6.5 road bike, so I've been taking my bike in quite a bit to Bike America, where I purchased the bike. Trek has finally agreed to send me a new 2010 frame under warranty (lifetime warranty for Trek frames). So I had to bring my bike into the shop, so they can send the old frame back to the factory. I noticed a display of Grease Monkey Wipes on the counter. All the Bike America stores in south Florida carry them - pretty cool.
