Q & A - Competition

I’ve been getting a variety of sponsorship offers over on the SponsorHouse site. SponsorHouse offers a number of suggestions on how to setup your profile page in order to attract new sponsorship offers. One of the tips they made was to setup a Question & Answer section, listing how/why you got into competition. Here are the questions & answers I just posted to my SponsorHouse profile page.

How did you get started?

At the 2007 El Tour de Tucson (a 109 mile road bike race) I got the bug to get a new road bike. In February 2008 I got my brand new Trek Madone 6.5 from my local Bike America store. The new bike only weighs 14.1 pounds - talk about a SLICK ride! I thought I might have to try racing once my new bike arrived. Found out about a local time trial in my area and signed up for it.

List your competitive highlights:

On March 9th, 2008 I competed in my very first time trial and won 3rd place in my age group. Not too shabby for a 44 year old soccer mom!

What are you planning for next season?

I’d like to try a duathlon or two - run-bike-run. I’m not a swimmer, so no triathlons for this chick. Planning to do my first half marathon on December 7th, 2008 and my first full marathon on January 11th, 2009. I’m also curiously interested in Cyclo Cross racing, but need to save up for an entry level cyclo cross bike. So if there are any bike manufacturers out there that would like to sponsor me - CALL ME!!!!

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

Getting off my butt, almost 5 years ago, at 40 years old and getting onto a bike. Yes, an old dog can learn new tricks!

Take care,
Lynn Smythe AKA the Bike Diva
