Charity Bike Ride
Thanks to all the sponsors, the South Broward Wheelers Bicycle Club donated 212 new bicycles and helmets to South Florida children during the 2007 holiday season. Recipients of the bikes were children served by Women in Distress, ChildNet, Children’s Home Society, Community Enhancement Collaboration, and Covenant House. Several foster families also received bicycles for children in their care. Since 2002, SBW has donated 862 bicycles and helmets to children in the tri-county area.
Bike Diva Notes
My husband and I did this ride two years ago. We opted for the metric century (62 mile) option and were glad we decided not to go for the full century ride. It was a REALLY windy day which made for difficult riding at times. And let’s face it, we aren’t exactly kids anymore. 62 miles is a piece of cake but 100 miles is pushing it.
The Broward Wheelers Century Ride is a well supported ride. Well marked route, plenty of rest stops with food and drink. There was breakfast available at the start of the ride at Brian Piccolo Park. There was a wonderful Italian lunch waiting for us at the completion of the ride back at Brian Piccolo Park - salad, pasta, chicken parmesan and garlic bread. We are friends with a few of the South Broward Wheelers members which made for a very enjoyable ride.
I’m not sure if we’ll be able to do this ride this year. It’s the same day as the last 15K time trial which is part of the West Palm Beach Race Series. My husband and I have been participating in the WPBRS since March.
